Travelling by Air
Belgium has a number of international airports
Zaventem Airport-Brussels. About 1 hr and 30 mins from Bruges by train take the the Airport City Express (click here for a timetable)
Deurne Airport-Antwerp. Plenty of scheduled flights arrive here and for more information click here.
Ostend Airport-Ostend. More of a freight terminal.
Charleroi - found to the south of Brussels, the airport is connected to Bruges by a bus services which operates four times a day in each direction. The arrival and departure point in Bruges is the railway station.
Travelling by Rail
Travelling by train to Bruges couldn't be simpler as it is within easy reach of many major European cities. Your options include:
Belgian Railways (NMBS) trains arrive in Bruges from Brussels in less then 1 hr, from Antwerp in 1 hr and 20 mins, from Ghent in 30 min., and from Ostend in 15 mins.
Thalys run trains from Amsterdam which take 2 hrs and 35 min to arrive. Thalys also have a service from Paris which is a 1 hr and 25 min journey. Trains depart and arrive at the south station (Gare du Midi) in Brussels and depart and arrive at the North Station (Gare du Nord) in Paris or at the Charles de Gaulle airport. If you are travelling from the United Kingdom then you can't beat the Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Brussels Gare du Midi. The journey takes 1 hr and 51 mins! Travelling by Ferry
There are many ferry services operating between the United Kingdom the main ones which are useful if travelling to Bruges are:
P&O ferries operate services between Dover and Calais, or Hull to Zeebrugge. Calais is only an hour's drive from Bruges so it is a good option but at 30 minutes away, Zeebrugge is even closer.
